Da Nang: Leading Innovation in Central and Central Highlands Regions

innovation

Da Nang has made significant progress in establishing policies and developing its startup ecosystem. The 2016 Decision No. 844/QĐ-TTg laid the legal foundation for the city to issue more than 20 policies and plans related to creative startups, in combination with implementing Decree No. 94/2020/NĐ-CP to support startup projects.

The city has established key institutions such as the Da Nang Startup Support Center, 9 incubation centers, 4 creative spaces, 9 coworking spaces, and 4 startup investment funds. Da Nang is also collaborating with the Ministry of Science and Technology to develop a National Startup Support Center, positioning itself as a leading hub for innovation in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands. More than 5 billion VND has been allocated to support startups in developing products in sectors like information technology, artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and food processing.

Key Events and International Collaboration

Da Nang regularly organizes major events such as SURF – Da Nang’s Startup Festival and virtual exhibitions, aimed at connecting the various components of the ecosystem. The city has also strengthened its international networking activities, linking local startups with partners in Japan, South Korea, India, Singapore, and Nordic countries. These initiatives have helped Da Nang foster international collaboration and attract foreign investment.

The city’s official startup platform, startupdanang.vn, has become a central hub for online startup activities, offering resources and connection points for entrepreneurs.

Infrastructure Development and Investment in Innovation

Da Nang has invested in state-of-the-art infrastructure to support startups, including the establishment of an incubator in the High-Tech Park, an innovation space at Software Park No. 2, and a coworking and training hub on Tran Hung Dao Street. One prominent project is the research and development of high-tech equipment for SMT (Surface-Mount Technology), with an investment of 162 billion VND, currently being implemented at the High-Tech Park.

Recognition and Growth of the Startup Ecosystem

As a result of these efforts, Da Nang has earned the title of “Attractive City for Startups” in both 2020 and 2022. The number and quality of startups in the city continue to grow, attracting investments from domestic and international venture funds. Da Nang’s continuous development confirms its pioneering role in the national startup ecosystem.

Da Nang’s efforts in policy creation, infrastructure development, and international collaboration have made it a leading city in Vietnam’s startup ecosystem. With a growing community of startups, continuous investment, and recognition at the national level, Da Nang is firmly establishing itself as a key player in the region’s economic and entrepreneurial development.
